Higher Education and Society

Education institutions, and the system that is part of it, is facing a series of unprecedented challenges from the forces of society that affect these same institutions are affected and their communities of learners and teachers. Among these forces sweeping changes in demographics, shrinking provincial and advances budgets revolutionary in information and communications technology, globalization and competition from new educational providers, market pressures on the formation of educational and scientific practices towards the ends of the profit-driven, increasing demand and pressure for fundamental changes in public policy and public accountability for the the role of higher education in addressing the pressing issues of local communities and society as a whole. Anyone of these challenges can be great on its own, but collectively they add to the complexity and difficulty of learning to maintain or pay basic work to serve the public good.



Through a forum on education, and we can agree on: strengthening the relationship between higher education and society will require a large-scale effort includes everything from education and not just individual institutions, departments and associations.

Partial solutions can only go so far. Change strategies must be informed by a shared vision and a set of common goals. "Movement" approach for change holds promise to transform the largest academic culture of "organizational" mainstream approach.

And mobilize change requires strategic alliances, networks and partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders inside and outside education.

The joint program is designed specifically to support the approach "movement" to change by encouraging the emergence of strategic alliances between individuals and organizations who are interested in the role of higher education in the payment of a diverse ideals through education, relationships and service to the community practices of a democratic system.

A common agenda

The joint program aims to be the "life" of the document and open process that guides teamwork and learning among committed partners inside and outside of higher education. As a living document, and a common agenda is a set of focused activities aimed at strengthening the civil, social and cultural roles in society. This collaboration created and implemented focused joint program that respects the diversity of activity and programmatic foci for individuals, institutions and networks, as well as recognize the common interests of the whole. As an open process and a common agenda is a structure to link labor relations on the basis of common interests with a focus on academic role in community service. And it will provide various means of aliening and amplify joint action in the field of education and outside the framework of a common agenda process.
